Review: Hatsune Miku Project Diva F

What is up people! Fuuko here with I’ll be quick reviewing Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F.

In this game, we get a taste of the first Vocaloid game being released in the West.

The characters in this are Miku, Luka, Rin, Len, Kaito, and Meiko with a various amount of costumes (or modules). 

There are about 38 playable songs with four difficulties of Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme. I played them all on Normal and a few on Hard and Extreme (though I failed to clear a couple for a various reason…)

The gameplay is basically timing your button pressing or stick flicking at the right time when the timer does a full circle for the shape or arrow.

Easy Mode is only flicking the L/R stick and hitting the O Button/Left D-pad Button while Normal Mode either add the X Button/Down D-pad Button or Triangle Button/Up D-pad Button as well as pushing those pair of buttons to hit the arrows. Hard Mode uses all D-pad and Shape Buttons and Extreme Mode is more complex than Hard Mode.

Depending how close you are, it’s graded as Cool (exact), Good (close enough), Safe (lucky), Bad (almost there), and Awful (not even close). There are also additional Chance and Tech Bonuses.

After all that, a score is based on the total notes you hit, max combo notes hit, your timing, and the Bonuses. That total becomes your grade. Depending on what points you get, the grades are Lousy (< 80), Standard (80-89), Great (90-94), Excellent (95-99), and Perfect (100).

I would say that the video playing in the background while playing to match the rhythm does distract me since I also want to watch it as well and you do get that chance once you complete it once.

Next is the Diva Room. This is where you interact with the Vocaloids and up your chemistry with them. (*wink* *wink* *nudge*)

Apparently, I only found a couple ways to interact with them, petting their head and face... [so awkward with Len and Kaito (>_<;)] Sometimes, they will ask you to play a game with them and that game is “Face that Way”. If you don’t know what game is that, it’s basically Rock-Paper-Scissors and then the one who lost (aka Looker) must look up, down, left, or right while the one who won (aka Pointer) must point the same direction. If the Pointer and Looker are pointing and looking at the same direction, the Pointer gets the point and if not, the game starts over. First to 3 points wins.

Other then that, you get to customize each of the Vocaloids’ rooms and the Vocaloids as well that you get in the Shop. You can also give them miscellaneous items and food to also increase chemistry as well.

Can’t forget about the shop! This is where you use your Diva Points that you collected in the Rhythm Game Mode. You can buy various Modules, Items that you can give to the Vocaloids, Room themes and themed stuff, and custom Items to add to you Vocaloid custom look.

Oh yeah, there are also two studio modes: Live and Picture.

In Live Mode, you see Miku dance and sing like if you were in a Miku Concert. While she sings, you get to control which angle you want to see the concert. There are 10 angles to choose from or if you can’t choose, there’s the auto option between Angles 1 and 10 where it switches the angles for you.

In Picture Studio, you get to take pictures of your favourite Vocaloid and put them in various backgrounds, illustrations within the game, or pictures you’ve already taken with the same or other Vocaloids. Pictures you’ve taken with your camera or device with a Picture option also count.

There are also four other options as well.

Edit mode makes you create videos and your own Rhythm routines.

Network Mode is where you download and share data around the world.

Records is where you check the titles you unlock, your gameplay records, and Edit your profile.

Options is just customizing you your gameplay how you like it like screen size and your timing on hitting/flicking the buttons/sticks.

With Edit Mode, I’m still editing my first one and I wish I could show you guys a preview but since I don’t have one of those videogame capture card thingys, sorry, no preview…

My personal score (out of 10):

Music: 10 (just like what you hear in YouTube lol)

Video: 10 (amazing; better when they’re in with their recommended module set; hilarious when other Vocaloids sing other Vocaloid songs)

Gameplay (Rhythm Game): 8 (Easy [DNP]; Normal [few were hard at first but so far, easy]; Hard [just played few of my favourites, hard, and couldn’t pass except for a couple]; Extreme [too much!! Only passed couple songs...]; Videos a little distracting during gameplay…)

Gameplay (Diva Room): 7 (Petting their heads and faces was the only thing I could find to up friendship other than playing the “Face that Way! aka Paper-Scissor-Rock, Look over there!” mini-game and giving them food and items they enjoy; Petting Len and Kaito was a little awkward for me…)

Overall: 8.75

In closing, if you like Rhythm/Music games or new to this type of gameplay, I would recommend that you try it. It’s really fun! (^_^)
